Mar. 6th, 2020

Happy Friday!!

This has been a very exciting spirit week! Everyone enjoyed dressing up and participating in the house games! We were able to squeeze in some work in French!

In Grade 2:
-We reviewed everything we learned about simple machines as well as the verbs and sentence structures.
-We wroked on our summtives, completed and presented them.


In Grade 3:
-We reviewed everything we learned about forces in French.
-We worked on comparing the different forces using the comparative structures we learned.

In Grade 4:
-We completed our spelling test.
-We continued working on "the medieval times" unit and learned about using "il y'a" and "il n'ya pas" to compare lifestyles between the medieval times and the present time.

Feb. 28th, 2020

Hello everyone!

It's been a very busy and eventful week at St. Jude's, and it is only going to get busier next week with all the spirit days coming up before the March break! Please make sure to have a look at the flyer for spirit week to participate in all of the events!

This week, in grade 2:
- We continued learning about simple machines.
- We conjugated some new verbs and learned how to use them in sentences following the correct sentence structure : Sujet + verbe + complément.
-We worked in groups to write a few sentences to describe a simple machine given by the teacher.








In grade 3:
-We continued to learn and brainstorm new vocabulary about forces.
-This week we focused on the muscular force (la force musculaire).
-We reviewed the irregular verbs "Ëtre" and "Avoir" and used them to write sentences to describe the muscular force along with many adjectives and different sentence structures to compare it to the magnetic force. 

In grade 4:
-We worked on developing new vocabulary related to Medieval Times.
-We focused on text reading and comprehension: defining new words, finding synonyms, finding answers to questions.
-We learned a new set of spelling words, but the spelling test will take place on Monday, Mar. 2nd; due to the medieval times trip the grade 4s were away on this Friday.

Feb. 21st, 2020

Hello everyone!

Finally a sunny Friday! It's been a short yet busy week at St. Jude's.


In Grade 2:
-We've been working on simple machines: only focusing on 4 of them in French.
-We learned a new sentence structure "J'ain besoin de...pour..." (I need a...to/for...).
-We completed our weekly reading.



In Grade 3:
-We started discussing and learning about forces in French: new vocabulary words and verbs.
-We Reviewed affirmative and negative sentence structures.
-We completed our weekly reading.






In Grade 4:

-We started the new unit "Le Moyen-Âge" (Medieval times): vocabulary, verbs, reading comprehension...
-We continued to work on the imperative tense.
-We have been revieweing the Gregg Lerock songs in preparation for our trip to the concert coming up in April.

Feb. 14th, 2020

Happy Freezing Friday!

It is the coldest Friday of the year so far! I hope everyone is having a cozy and warm time with family and loved ones.

This week's been so much fun with year ahead day and Valentine's spirit day along with the 100th day of school!

In Grade2:
-We had a fun year ahead day activity (in grade 3): find someone who ("trouve quelqu'un qui") that helped us learn new fun facts about each other, and taught us how to ask a question in French.
-We learned some vocabulary related to Valentine's day and love.
-We made a valentine's card with all the things that we love.

















In Grade 3:

-We learned how to use the imperative tense "l'impératif" to give orders (year ahead day in grade 4). And we had fun making up orders and partenering with each other to give each other orders and executing them!
-We talked about things and people we love and how to remind them that we love them in French.
-We made a cute Valentine's drop down card.




In Grade 4:

-The grade 4 students enjoyed some grade 5 work in French with Mme. Stella for year ahead day.
-We continued to learn how to use the imperative tense and wrote instructions for a recipe to make a French dish "Quiche Lorraine". 
-We did some fun Valentine related word search and each one of us got to write down on the board in a heart one thing or person we love.

Feb. 7th, 2020

Happy snowy Friday!

What an exciting week it's been! The oral competitions went really well and all of the speeches were impressive! Congratulations to those who made to the top 3!
Luckily, we did not miss French time and we got a lot done this week!

In Grade2:

-We introduced our new unit "Les machines simples".
-We brainstormed some new vocabulary.
-We identified new verbs relevant to this unit and learned to conjugate them.
-We carried on with our weekly ready "Lecture".



In Grade3:

-We spent some time working on some grammar revisions.
-We reviewed basic verbs "avoir", "être" and "aller" and how to use them.
-We carried on with our weekly reading "lecture".



In Grade4:

-We learned how to write questions.
-We learned how to use the imperative tense to give orders.
-We did our spelling test (last week's).

Year ahead day is here!!

Dear SJA Lower School (JK to Grade 6) Families,
An annual event in the Lower School is our highly anticipated Year-Ahead Day. Students look forward to this fun tradition at St. Jude’s Academy where they get to skip ahead and spend the day in the next grade. Teachers will let students know who their Year-Ahead Day teacher is at the end of day on Friday, February 7, 2020. 
Please note that the placement for this day does not indicate class placement for the following school year.

Hello everyone!

Finally Friday! It's been a productive week at St. Jude's of course with a lot of fun!

In Grade 2:

-We've been working on verbs and nouns and how to distinguish each.
-We learned to conjugate easy verbs and use them in sentences.
-We learned how to find the subject and use it to find the correct conjugation of the verb.

In Grade 3:

-We've been talking about the city and the country (la ville et la campagne).
-We learned new sentence structures to compare them ("alors que").
-We started working on our summative project which we will complete next week.

In Grade 4:

-We completed the religions unit.
-We completed our project: introduce yourself and include the religion that you follow or believe in.
-We learned new sentence structures and continued practicing the future tense (futur simple).

I hope to see you all in the town hall meeting this evening!!

Town hall meeting coming up!

Happy first school-Friday of 2020!

I hope you'v all had a restful and fun break with family and friends, and of course all the chocolate you need to refuel for the second half of the year!
This week was short and a very smooth transition back to school, everyone got back into the routine and is now ready to get some serious work done!

In Grade 2:

-We had a small class discussion about the break and what each one of us did.
-We started learning how to identify verbs and distiguish verbs and nouns using some hints and rules.
-We started to learn how to conjugate somme simple verbs in the present tense.

In Grade 3:

-We had a small class discussion about what each one of us did during the break.
-We started our new unit: La ville et la compagne. We did a brainstorm about what a city looks like and what we can find in a city.
-We learned new prepositions to help us write new sentence structures.

In Grade 4:

-We had a small discussion about the break and what we did, along with some winter-related vocabulary and activities.
-We started to learn a new tense "Le futur simple" which is a future tense.
-We had a mini revision test about the basic irregular verbs ("avoir", "être", "faire", "aller").
